Enrichment Opportunities

Part of what makes a well-rounded student is their ability to have positive interactions with their peers outside of the academic setting. As an undergraduate at NC State, I have managed to balance my intense workload with various enrichment opportunities, including leadership positions, traveling to new places, and discovering a new sport.

College of Science Ambassador Program
May 2021 - May 2024

The College of Sciences Student Ambassadors Program allows outstanding students to engage with the college and promote a vibrant campus culture. In May 2021, I joined the College of Science Ambassador family after being urged to apply to the program by my advisor at the time, Betsy Alexeiff, who also happened to be an advisor for the program. As a Student Ambassador, I serve as a face for the College of Science, where I can share my love and passion for NC State University and help prospective and newly admitted students and families navigate the complex environment of college admission season.

Responsibilities of a College of Science Ambassador:

  • Staff the Wolfpack Welcome Week event

  • Interact with alumni, students, and family at Sciences Visitation Days

  • Provide tours to prospective students and families

  • Communicate with admitted students through phone calls and emails

  • Represent Sciences students at events for alumni and special guests

  • Share experiences on student panels

As I said before, the College of Science Ambassador program has become a family for me and one of my most valuable experiences as an undergrad at NC State.

Society for Undergraduate Mathematics (SUM Club)
Fall 2021 - May 2024

The SUM Club organizes academic and social events for undergraduate students interested in mathematics. Our goal is to help math students network and learn about any opportunities to further their educational experience and plan for their future careers. In May 2022, I began my role as the SUM Club Secretary and have worked with the other club officers to arrange bi-weekly club meetings. Even though I have not been a math major for the last two years, I have remained highly dedicated to SUM Club and even mentoring underclassmen who may want to explore a minor or double major in statistics. UHP Spring Break Abroad: Spain & Portugal
May 2023

I always wanted to study abroad while in college; however, due to COVID-19, my opportunity to study abroad for a semester was delayed, and at that point, due to AP classes and Honors Seminars, I had all of my GEPs fulfilled. When I started the University Honors Program, I had heard about the alternative spring breaks the program offered but never considered until my junior year. With the help of my parents and grandparents and additional scholarship opportunities, I joined a cohort of 40 UHP/USP students and university staff to travel abroad to Spain and Portugal over nine days. Listed below are the major cities I was lucky to visit during this time:

  • Spain: Madrid, Spain; Segovia, Spain; Ávila, Spain; Salamanca, Spain

  • Portugal: Guimarães, Portugal; Braga, Portugal; Porto, Portugal; Coimbra, Portugal; Fátima, Portugal; Lisbon, Portugal

This trip allowed me to see two countries in a week and meet and become friends with various students across the University Honors and Scholars Programs. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to join the UHP program on this once-in-a-lifetime trip, and I can't wait to plan to return to some of these cities to explore even more of what they have to offer.

Disc Golf Club at NC State
February 2023 - May 2024

The Disc Golf Club at NC State is a club sport within the university open to students of all skill levels and offers a competitive and non-competitive membership to the club. The club has deep competitive roots within the sport, producing eight All-American athletes and finishing in the top 10 at the National Collegiate Disc Golf Competition seven times, including the most robust finish (2nd place) in 2019. Before January 2023, I didn't even know disc golf was a thing; however, a newer friend of mine at the time, who previously played on the team and kept in touch with the current roster of players, told me the team was desperately looking for a second girl on their women's team. Having played tennis all of high school, I missed playing sports and decided to try it. Little did I know I would soon fall in love with the sport and disc golf community. After a month of playing, I competed in my first tournament, the Inaugural Tar Heel Collegiate Classic, with Genesis Beck, the other female disc golfer on the team, where we also won the FPO Team Competition. Then, after a few more months of playing, I competed in the 2023 National Collegiate Disc Golf Competition, where I met various women across the country and played on a beautiful course in Marion, NC. While I placed last due to a horrible singles round played in the cold rain, I still enjoyed getting to know the team at the Airbnb and during the practice rounds. Since then, I continued to play competitively during the summer break and returned this past fall season with significant improvements in my game and ready to play some college competitions. In addition to team practices and tournament weekends, I've begun playing at the Bond Brothers weekly Putting League, where I get to practice my putting and enjoy a nice evening with disc golf friends. I'm excited to see where my disc golf career will take me and the opportunity to play in the 2024 National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships this April.

College Disc Golf Career:

  • Inqugurial Tar Heel Collegiate Classic (FPO Team Champion)

  • 2023 National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships

  • Catamount Collegiate Challenge at Lake Jullian (FA1 Team Champion)

  • 49er Showdown

  • 2nd Annual Tar Heel Collegiate Classic

  • Wolfpack Cross Country Classic
